I’m struggling to cope
When everything starts to feel like too much
You may have noticed persistent anxiety, low mood, exhaustion or a sense of emptiness that wasn't there before.
Perhaps you're struggling to engage with life, feeling numb or irritable more often, or dreading things you once enjoyed, such as work, study or spending time with people you care about.
You may have a nagging sense that something needs to change without knowing what that is or how to change it.
You might also notice yourself relying more on ways of coping that give you temporary relief, such as drinking, scrolling, avoiding things or simply keeping yourself constantly busy.
Why am I not coping better?
You may find yourself wondering, “Is this normal?” or “Why can't I handle this?”
There are a lot of competing demands to manage in adult life: work, friendships, family, romantic relationships, physical health, finances and finding time to look after yourself.
Sometimes overwhelm is a response to simply having too much going on. At other times, it can be useful to understand why you're carrying so much in the first place.
Perhaps you're used to taking responsibility, find it difficult to say no or have spent a long time putting other people's needs ahead of your own. You may have become very good at pushing through until eventually that becomes harder to sustain.
Understanding what you need now
Therapy isn't about “fixing” you. It's about understanding what's underneath the struggle and working out what will genuinely help.
Together, we can make sense of what's happening and why coping feels particularly difficult right now. We'll look at patterns in your thoughts, emotions and behaviours that may be keeping you stuck and develop strategies that are specific to what you're experiencing.
Sometimes that means practical changes. At other times, there may be experiences or patterns that need more space to be understood.
Through this process, we can work towards helping you feel more able to manage what's happening now while developing a clearer understanding of yourself and what you need moving forward.
